Discover Music: Discover Life’s (DMDL) mission is to enhance student academic achievement and life skills through supportive mentoring and by developing and implementing standards-based curricula.
DMDL, Inc. was founded in 2000 by Orbert Davis and Mark Ingram. They have spent the majority of their professional careers as artists and mentors. Their concern about the quality and effectiveness of arts education for young people was the inspiration for DMDL’s curriculum design. Their goal is to insure that high-quality, standards based arts programming is available for all students, especially those least likely to have access to the arts.
Using a direct instructional approach that connects every day life to music, the DMDL Curriculum helps students improve perceptive listening, critical thinking and creative participation skills. Through practical application and integrated, standards-based content, the curriculum addresses national and state goals for reading, math and fine arts.
Using our arts-based reading and math curriculum, we incorporate interventional Tutoring, Academic Counseling and Fine Arts instruction. Ours is a student-centered program, and using a variety of activities, each child receives skill-appropriate instruction specific to his/her learning style. Our tutoring initiative uses individual and small-group dynamics to encourage reluctant learners and build confidence in the cooperative experience.
